What we collect
Your email and name when you create an account, the plan you buy, and counts of how many documents you process. Stripe holds your card; we never see it.
Your documents
Filling and signing happen in your browser; the PDF does not reach our servers while you work on it. When you send a document, we store that finished PDF for 30 days so the recipient can open it from the link, then delete it automatically. You can delete it sooner from your account. Autofill sends the source you choose and the field names of your forms to our AI provider (Anthropic) to work out which values go where; that data is not used to train models. We never sell your data.
Saved progress
While you fill a PDF, your progress (the file, what you typed and your signature) is saved in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off. It never reaches our servers, it is deleted after 30 days, and you can delete it any time from the Fill & Sign page. On a shared computer, delete it when you are done.
Contacts
Contacts you import, and the people you send documents to, are stored in your account so you can send to them again. We never email them except when you send, never share or sell the list, and you can export or delete it any time from Contacts.
Signature requests
When you send a document for signature, we store it and the signed copy in your account as your record. When someone signs, we record their name, email, the time, their IP address and device, and their agreement to sign electronically, and print these on the certificate of completion. Signers can download the signed copy from their link.
Saved clients
If you choose Save as a client after autofill, we store the answers you checked (names, addresses, dates and similar) so you can reuse them. Nothing is saved unless you press it. Delete any client from your account at any time; deleting your account deletes them all.
IRS identity verification
For IRS Form 8879 or 8878, the preparer enters each taxpayer's name, SSN, date of birth and address. We store them encrypted and use them only to verify identity through our provider (Veratad for identity questions, Stripe Identity for photo ID and selfie). The provider sees those details but never the tax return, and the IRS never sees a credit report. A knowledge-based check can create a soft inquiry that does not affect credit scores. We keep the result, not the answers or ID images.
Fax
To fax a document we store it and hand a one-time link to our fax carrier (Telnyx), which sends it. We keep the file for 30 days so you can download the confirmation with the pages that were sent, then delete it; the record of the fax stays. Do not fax medical records or other protected health information through BettrPDF.
Document requests
Files someone uploads to a checklist you sent, and forms they fill there, go only to you and are stored in your account until you delete them or close your account. The person uploading needs no account and can remove a file until the checklist is complete.
Certified mail
To mail a letter we send the document and both addresses to our print and mail partner, Lob, which prints it and hands it to USPS. We keep the letter, its tracking, and any door-posting photo you add in your account as your proof of service.
Saved signatures
If you tick Remember my signature when signing, we save your name and signature for your email address so the next document sent to you, by anyone, takes one tap. It is only shown on signing links sent to that address, never to senders, and you can remove it from any signing page with Forget it.
Text messages
If a sender adds your mobile number, we text you the link to their document through our carrier, Telnyx, as well as emailing it. Reply STOP to any text and we will not text that number again.
Email sending
If you connect Gmail, we use a connection managed by Composio to send only the emails you ask us to send. We do not read your inbox. You can disconnect at any time from your Google account permissions.
AI features
Text sent to the AI agent is processed by Anthropic under terms that do not permit training on your content. We keep no copy beyond the request.
Cookies
One session cookie keeps you signed in, and one local counter tracks free downloads in your browser. No advertising trackers.
Deleting everything
Email support@bettrpdf.com or use the delete button in your account. Your account, documents and usage records are removed within 30 days; Stripe keeps invoices as required by law.
